Accessibility
As always, we want to make this year’s festival accessible for as many people as possible with and without disabilities. You can find the accessible performances using the programme filter.

Translation into sign language
For the deaf and people with hearing disabilities, two productions will be translated into Swiss German Sign Language (DSGS) and one into Langue des signes française (LSF).

Surtitles
Many of the performances are surtitled in German or English. This means that even those which are spoken in, for example, Romanian or Spanish can be understood by a broad audience. Thanks to the surtitles, these performances are also accessible to hard-of-hearing or deaf audience members.

For people with vision disabilities
For people with vison disabilities, two performances are made accessible through audio descriptions. They receive live spoken descriptions of the events via headphones. Other events with this symbol are either per se accessible to people with vision disabilities or through another measure.

Most of our venues are accessible to people with mobility disabilities.

Relaxed Performance
Some performances take place as so-called Relaxed Performances. This means that it never gets completely dark in the theatre hall, and it is possible to leave and come back at any time. Other things that are usually considered disturbing in theatres, like talking or making other noises, are also allowed. We also provide alternative seating options.

Free admission
The events at the Festival Centre on Waisenhausplatz, all concerts and discussions are free of charge.

Special Check-In
We offer the possibility of a Special Check-In. If for any reason you would like to avoid the crowded foyer, have trouble getting into the hall with the crowd, need a special seat or require assistance due to a mobility restriction, please contact us in advance (silja.gruner@auawirleben.ch). Someone from the team will accompany you according to your needs.

«Einfach gesagt» (In simple words)
In the booklet and the German version of the website, there is section called a «Einfach gesagt» (in simple words) section for each production for those who have difficulty reading and understanding complex German texts.
Social Stories
Social Stories are used as a tool to prepare people for a public event such as a theatre performance. In our Social Stories you will find a description for each performance, what situation to expect at the venue and what conventions apply there.
